Dr. Mary E. Baker is a lifetime South Carolinian. She received her BS in 1974 from Duke University. Her MD degree was earned at the Medical University of South Carolina. Four years of Obstetrics and gynecology residency followed also at MUSC. Dr. Baker remained on faculty in the Department of OB/GYN until opening private practice in 1983 with Dr. Delinda H. Terry in Mt. Pleasant.

Dr. Baker is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She became a Fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 1986. She was elected to membership in the South Atlantic Association of OB/GYN in 1996. Dr. Baker has been an active member of the AMA, The South Carolina Medical Association, The Charleston County Medical Society, THEGOS, and the State OB/GYN Society. She has been published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and in the journal Fertility and Sterility.

Currently, Dr. Baker is on staff at East Cooper Regional Medical Center and Roper Care Alliance Hospital. She has served on multiple committees at these hospitals. Dr. Baker has been a member of the National Physician Advisory Board of Tenet Health Systems since 1995, serving as Chairman.

Dr. Baker is a member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church. In her hometown of Newberry, SC, she enjoys membership in the American Legion Auxiliary, the UDC, and the DAR. She enjoys travel, photography, gardening, and family history research.
